Megan and Jay’s Wedding: A Day Full of Love
The week before Megan married Jay, she sent me a message to let me know that they had lost their baby boy, Bodhi.
I remember reading it and thinking how unbelievably cruel it was to be carrying that grief while preparing for a wedding.
And then I met Megan.
Getting Ready with Megan
While getting ready, Megan was somehow still trying to host me, offering me champagne and asking if I needed anything.
She's incredibly beautiful, but also silly, warm, and so lovely to be around.
Her best friends, mum, and sister gathered around her as she read a letter Jay had written. One line stayed with me:
“Thank you for everything you do for us and most importantly thank you for being you. I am incredibly blessed to have found you, to have both of you.”
Both of you.
Megan sat there, trying so hard not to cry.
Bodhi Was Part of Their Day
Jay had both Megan and Bodhi's initials embroidered onto the cuffs of his shirt. A small detail, but one that said so much.
They held hands throughout the ceremony, with their mums as their witnesses. And despite their rather ridiculous height difference, Megan somehow leaned further away when they kissed instead of going on her tiptoes. 😂
On the walk to The Phene, a butterfly landed on one of the bouquets.
And stayed there.
“That’s Bodhi.”
A Little Tenderness, and a Lot of Laughter
Later, Jay gave one of those speeches that tells you everything about how someone is loved. He spoke about Megan with so much pride and gentleness, sharing what they'd been through while still managing to make everyone laugh.
There was so much tenderness between these two, but this wasn't a solemn day.
Jay popped champagne outside and somehow managed to soak me, my camera, and himself.
And I think that's what I'll remember about Megan and Jay's wedding. The space they made for the hard things, without losing the laughter, the joy, or the love that surrounded them.
For Megan, Jay, and Bodhi
There was grief there. Of course there was.
But there was also an enormous amount of love.
For Megan. For Jay. For Bodhi.
And for the little family they already are.
Megan and Jay, I don't think I'll forget this one.
